Destination Slowly Approaching

My week-long silence has been due to work. I’m semi-happy, I see the finished project slowly coming along, even though problems in my personal life are sprouting all around. I am so proud of my love. He has contributed to this project tremendously. We were able to record all 3 songs in 2 days! These songs are really nice too, well written, commercial, and have a lot to add to what is going on in music world today. There is so much to learn about the music business, it is almost never-ending. Once I feel like I have a semi-grip of all there is, something else shows itself. The business is not hard, however it is one of those businesses that details and social etiquette are a very important must. Managing artists and songwriters is very enjoyable, but every decision- down to extreme detail- is too essential.

Now that the project is behind me, I can finally focus on some of my other work. Back to the books, articles, stories, and poems.

Unfamiliar Territory: The Music Business

Posted in Jazz, life, Music on May 11, 2009 by The A Train

It is hard for certain people to recognize a good opportunity when one comes their way, I am learning. In Houston, this past weekend, I visited this jazz bar that I would normally not step into. It was a comfortable lounge, very art-sy and trendy, but the crowd was not my usual crowd. While I was there, there was this really sultry, smooth sounding jazz vocalist singing – and this person has the voice and the look of what I am in need for, for a song I have to finish for a major producer. I approached him, told him how he could get exposure “out the ass” for working on this song… And he just kinda gave major excuses. He was nervous I could tell, by his shaky hands and all, but he said “I’ll be studying for a final… I will be teaching a class on Monday… blah, blah” He handed me his card with his shaky hand and that was that. So I was thinking, maybe he is beating himself up right now, give him a call anyway. Called today, same excuse! Then he told me he wants to sing jazz. Jazz only. That’s fine and dandy to want to sing jazz music- however, everyone knows in the music business, when you are a new artist, you chill and do what you have to do to get out there. Do a album or two, then convert to your desired style. Kanye had to do it, Akon did it, etc, etc. The song that he would be singing is very vivid, like jazz, but is more on the alternative, rock, tip. Now I have to search for someone else… again… deadline approaching… stress central…

I guess this move to the south was a bad idea… May have to go back to the east coast to get my business once again. What’s up with people, nowadays? If it was me I would have jumped on it.

Sorry Man’s Pit Stop

~This post involves plot revealing material~

I went (dragged of course) to the movie “Obsessed” last night. This is was one of those classic, stalker movies with the very predictable plot turns…. You’ve seen one you’ve seen them all. The only good thing about this movie is Beyonce, which is funny, because she was the reason why I did not want to see it in the first place (the woman’s everywhere! She needs to sit down for a minute). However, Beyonce’s acting is the best it probably will ever be, she didn’t demean herself in the role, and she kicked the stalker’s ass at the end of the flick. Other than that, it is definitely a video rental.

But I have one extreme issue with the storyline. Why did it take all that for the psycho-witch to get demolished? Shouldn’t the husband have nipped it in the bud sooner- he certainly had all the time in the world too? From when the crazy lady strips down in his Mercedes, to her slipping a drug in his cocktail, oh and don’t forget the time when she attempted suicide in his hotel room… I mean, the man was supposed to be a smart guy, he was supposed to be able to think on his feet- so why didn’t he act before it got out of hand? The psycho even had time to force entry into their home to take their child, and put him (who by the way: has a high level of child vulnerability, because he is under the age of 5. Yes, I used to work for Children’s Protective Services) into a closed vehicle for who knows how long and alone. I know that state laws severely punishes this type of act, even if it is the parent that does it to the child, and even still he didn’t legally do anything about this lady? Come on… I WISH my man would do something like that, or not do, if we had such a problem.

My point is, is that it took the little ‘ole wife (Beyonce) to fist fight with this psycho, and almost die trying to her. I give the guy a Grammy for not cheating, but hey, does he really deserve that?

Come on men! Please tell me you would have been just a little more proactive…

Jazz Central with Christian Scott

Posted in inspiration, Jazz, life, Music on May 5, 2009 by The A Train

Jazz is one of my muses. I love everything that goes in and creates what we call jazz. Right now I’m listening to the genre Minimalist/Progressive, and a few minutes past I came across one of Christian Scott’s Songs. It took me back instantly! This trumpeter has got talent. Scott is originally from New Orleans, and you can tell from the vivid-ness of his music. On top of the roots of jazz, classical jazz that is, you cant hear his new twist on jazz music; almost like an imprint of the artistry of a city.

Very vivid.

I am not sharing this with whomever reading to hike him up, for his profit, he is not one of my artists or anything, he is just so enchanted I had to share to others.

Check him out on iTunes or your Zune, or something. This guy is young and talented, and we all know that adding something fresh and new to our music collection is much needed.

He is a legend in the making. From “Katrina’s Eyes” to “Like This”, he is an inspiration from track 1.

Celebrity Marriage Comes to Dead End

Posted in celebrity, life, love on May 4, 2009 by The A Train

I usually do not get into celebrity juice ‘n gossip, especially about celeb relationships- however, Nas and Kelis are an interesting couple. Nas- popular, timeless and one of the only semi-intelligent music making rappers out there and Kelis- sexy, hip, different R&B singer, are ending their 5 year marriage, despite her being 7 months pregnant.

Kelis stated that she is tired of his “verbally abusive” and “cheatin'” ways.

Poor couple. I hope it doesn’t get messy due to a child involved.
